When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific service provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that manages the emails for that specific domain address. The website and the email hosting are often considered to be one thing, while they're in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different companies if you want. As an example, some new provider might have exceptional uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain name to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an e-mail - either way, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account through our company and you want to direct either your site or your e-mails to a different company, it's going to take you literally just 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up will not take more than a few hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any one of your domain addresses or subdomains is really easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any difficulties if you decide to direct your site or e-mails to an alternative company while keeping the second service with our company. When necessary, you can also create additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the instructions of the new provider.
